    I love you, Drakkar Sauna.

What is it about listening to Drakkar Sauna that makes me think life is a big Wes Anderson film?

But it was a good day. Met Sally, bought some cool stuff in the Berry Hill area, ate a pupusa, had a lorikeet land on my head at the zoo. Good times.

    "Crash" fits the film but...

..if they needed a different one word title, may I suggest "Trite?"

I mean, THIS beat "Brokeback Mountain?" A beautiful and timeless story about two people who loved each other so intensely but were kept apart by social mores of the time? A movie where the scenery deserved top billing above Jake and Heath?

    Hi, my name is Gwen...

A little catch up, but it DOES pay off at the end...

So I'm trying out this ew thing of not being in my bedroom until I'm ready to sleep. It seems to be going ok, just ok. It's still early to tell. Right now I'm pretty sleepy but I'm riding it out for now...

Crafty night was fun Monday night. Especially when Eddie George showed up. I daresay his fuzzy flipflops were the BEST. You've simply GOT to go to the Grape. Delicious. And take me. I'm broke.

My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find a taqueria close to my house. I have found a few on citysearch, this weekend I hope to try them out. Yes, I'll even try the mobile taco stands, I like to live on the edge.

So we have this thing at work, how to handle patients. It is very similar to Margaret Cho's bit about Gwen. You know, "Hi, my name is Gwen and I'm here to WASH YOUR VAGINA." So I share in a meeting yesterday, and there was much laughter. I followed up with a video clip so they could laugh with, not at. So yesterday and today I get a few Administrative Professionals Day cards (I realize technically I am not an Admin Prof, but since I seem to be the only one in the office who doesn't fall in the categories of Nurses, Doctors, Bosses, Mothers, Fathers, Spouses, Domestic Partners, Valentines, or Grandparents, I get honored). Two of the cards have references to that particular joke (and one with a Sedaris joke, just an aside). And then today, during a meeting with ALL staff I get to repeat the line for my entire department.

And then I get the "Swollen Gonads" award (not as salacious as it sounds, I just happen to know about mumps).

    Open letter to me:

Don't watch AC Slater themed videos on youtube before you go to bed. Unless, of course, you like dirty Mario Lopez dreams (and, by the way, you don't as you probably already know).

    Let's catch up, shall we?

I've been sick. No excuse. But here's the rundown:

Thursday I stayed out of work due to illness. I am being hit by allergies something fierce. I slept most of the day and woke up Friday morning feelig a little better. It didn't last very long and I ended up leaving work early. I stopped and got some benedryl (and easter candy! the best holiday based candy across the board!) and came home and slept for a few hours. I woke up with dry sinuses and a take on the world feeling. I thought I was well enough to venture out and see my very favorite band Drakkar Sauna, so off I went. Of course, when I got home I realized I was wrong, WAY wrong, and slept horribly. However, Drakkar Sauna is amazing so I was glad I went.

So Saturday was Sally's garage sale. Lindsay picked up some cute clothes. We decided to stop in the sleepy hamlet of Berry Hill for some vintage clothes shopping. Such a surprise when we found that there was a neighborhood wide garage sale going on! Being sick and mostly sedentary my energy ended FAST, but not before a stop at my new favorite bead store. Yay! And a little Qdoba and Target. Then home for another nap.

After another nap it was off to the southside for nascar and whiffleball. Good times! The dogs got along well with Ginger's dog Sarah. Everyone else wanted grilled meats, but all I wanted were some real, REAL tacos. They ended up coming from a taco stand that used to be a gas station/convenience store.

And now I'm watching So Notorious, possibly my favorite new show. Other than that, today there will be more of this...

    Devin is seven (it rhymes!)

Last night I got to chat with Devin, my godson, on his birthday. He has always been SO much fun to talk with, he's definitely got the gift of gab. He claims to be getting too old for Buzz Lightyear, I say NO! No one's ever too old for Buzz Lightyear!

Sedaris was fun, allergies are not

Last night I got to see David Sedaris at War Memorial Auditorium. It was great, I enjoyed it tremendously. We decided to get books, then to get them autographed, while he was signing our books he cut the line off. I later found out that old pal Steph got there right after the cut off, but I hope she got her book signed after. It was hilarious, irreverent, good times.

But it seems that I'm coming down with allergies which is not so much fun. I'll soldier on, I'm a survivor.

    Mixed blessings

Terry Gross cancelled her appearance tonight. Quelle dommage! But it's
ok, I'm super duper tired, plus there's a great book signing tonight.

    Golgotha

Wow. I don't know what it is that makes me not update you lovely folks, but here we are. I wonder if I'm saving it up for the podcasts I never get around to posting?

Last weekend was the first ever crafty night sleepover. good times for sure! wine, food, prank calls. Will happen again.

Seven days this week, three nights at The Basement. Only one of those three did I actually go in, Hands Down Eugene record release. My sister is quite smitten with Ghostfinger. Good times once again.

Saw Th' Legendary Shack Shakers and Scott Biram for the first time. Amazing. Simply amazing.

This week proves to be even more crazy. It's going to be all NPRy for the next two days...Terry Gross Monday and David Sedaris Tuesday. It's more difficult than you think to find someone who wants to see Sedaris, I suppose it's my breath. Of course, it would be MOST fun to see Sedaris with Dr GtSEF, but he is out of state at the moment.

In addition, I am so excited to see my very favorite crazy-folk duo Drakkar Sauna. SO excited. And not just once, but TWICE in one night. I love them, since they are Kansas based I don't get to see them as much as I'd like. "As much as I'd like" means keeping them in my spare room to serenade me at LEAST daily, if not more often.

    Storm damage

So, you may have heard there were some storms in the central tennessee area. If not, tornadoes killed 11 people in the state last friday. This is on top of the twenty something who were killed by tornados a little over a week ago.
My sister happened to be in the area and on a drive after the storm (no, she was not rubbernecking, she was on her way somewhere.

I should probably talk about this.

in the interest of FULL disclosure I should probably share some of the details about running into the most recent ex-boyfriend this weekend. Here are some random thoughts:

    * He looks pretty bad. The sour grapes side of me should love this, but the sensitive me does not. He assured me he'd been back on the exercise track so maybe the next few times I see him he'll be looking better. Then I wondered if he thinks the same about me, seeing as I've kind of let myself go over the last few months (laziness? depression? either way it's weight gained, muscle tone lost).
    * We recapped our lives apart over the last several months in about the same amount of time we'd spend recapping our days every evening when we were together.
    * Even though I've been out and have dated a few fellows I can still get a little bit jealous when I see him talking to a pretty girl.
    * Mentioning the podcast might not have been the best idea, but I doubt he remembers talking about it, and if he does, I doubt he'll find if (if you did, then hi. Just don't listen to any shows except #16!).
    * Some of his friends still greet me the way they did when we were together, but some apparently didn't know how to react, giving me a bit of a confused cold shoulder.
    * I don't know what's going to happen next. I would imagine more of the same, only without me being terrified of running into him in public.

    Late night recap

I saw CSA today. If you haven't seen/heard/read the million news stories about it, well, go google search and come back, we'll discuss. It was all right. It had potential.

I was so tired I could barely keep awake. No reflection on the movie, just a reflection on me. I got plenty of sleep, or at least I thought I did.

I was so excited to see the Flavor of Love reunion show but I slept through most of it. I would imagine it'll be reaired a million times over. Where does reality end and reality tv begin? I did catch a little bit of it towards the end and I hate to spoil it, but they're not together anymore.

Also, I added some items to my store. Find it at Sheila Denny.

The point of this? Don't nap on a Sunday evening.
