    What I've learned

I've not been here in a very long time. Now, in the interest of the end of the semester, I'll like to let you know what I've learned.

    1. There is nothing soy can't do. Seriously. Firstly, Kate's now married. Congratulations! Everything was beautiful and the reception was fun. What does this have to do with soy? Well, the dinner was stuffed shells. Not just any stuffed shells, VEGAN stuffed shells. Swear, you'd have no idea you weren't eating ricotta. Oh man--so rich and delicious.
Secondly, Angi recommended something--Better Than Cream Cheese. Tofu, right? How can tofu be better than cream cheese? No way. YES way. Angi has good taste. She's also got good kids. There they are, right over there.
    2. I can draw. Of course, I have to have a picture to copy from, plus I have to have a grid. Seriously, is it talent when you can pretty much make a direct copy of an image? Tomorrow I pick up my portfolio with the comments. Perhaps I will post them here?
    3. No matter how much fun you're having or how caught up in the moment you are, do NOT do ouzo shots. Seriously.
    4. There is such a thing as too much sweet. After a wedding shower and a birthday (happy birthday Jacyn!) I'm in need of a new set of Islets of Langerhans.

    Several More Down: I'm Lazy

Oh, let's just go with this. There's so much I've read in the past several months I can't even remember it all! Well, that and the fact that none of the books really stood out too well.

I will say that I just recently finished Water for Elephants which was quite good up until the end. The end was fine, just not satisfying. But never mind, let me tell you about the book.

I do love to read about circus life. I don't know what it is as the circus life, it isn't the life for me but I do love to read about it (see also Wonder When You'll Miss Me which is amazing, I hope you go click on that link and buy it immediately). I also don't know what led me to Water for Elephants, but it provided even more behind the scenes circus knowledge. As I mentioned I didn't care for the ending but still, the journey was better than the destination. Getting there was all the fun. The means justified the end. Ok, not really. Still, worth getting from a library or at a book sale.

    Dayzzzzzzzzz

It's been a long time, hasn't it? Well, it's been a crazy week. Let's update.

    • Wednesday meant dinner with the Herricks. I haven't seen these people in over two years so there were some changes. Devin now has GROWN UP teeth. Cagney now has NO FRONT TEETH. Elijah TALKS. I held these kids on the days they were born! Oh, I'm old. But I had a great time at dinner with Jay and Angi. They're good people.

    • Kate married John (more an that later) which means Bachelorette parties. So much fun. I saw Jenny, a montreat friend who I hadn't seen probably since my last montreat trip during college. With her help we named 50 shows better than Dharma and Greg (hey, ouzo shots were involved). We all told Kate stories and ate wedding cake scraps.

    • As I mentioned previously Kate married John. Or John married Kate. Either way, they're married and it was so pretty. It started at the lovely First Pres in Mt Pleasant, a pleasant little town with a over eager cop who followed me for the last couple of miles hoping I'd go a mile over the ridiculously low 30 speed limit. Still, I did get there in time to see the wedding, it was lovely. Then to The Farm! I'd never been to the farm. Short version: delicious vegan meal, amazing cake, it was all wonderful.

Seriously, there's something very appealing about living way out in the country in a cute little town. Of course, this would only be acceptable if I didn't work here in town.

    Last night

I had this dream that on my way home from derby practice (yes, I was sweaty and gross) I stopped in a western wear store for a pair of boots. While I'm there the shop gets raided for being a front for a whorehouse. I get taken in in my disheveled state and get mugshotted and printed just as one would, even though I was guilty of no crime they had no way of knowing that.

Samantha, here's the part you'll find most interesting: as this is going on my dream mind wondered if this would end up on fark.

    Derby crazy!

IT is worth noting that this Saturday's bout went very well, very well indeed.

If you weren't there you won't get it. It was action packed, super fun, and you better be at the next one. Maybe there will be a different band (anecdotal evidence indicated that the crowd wasn't crazy about the band who will not be named here, you are welcome to google to find out).

Tonight at practice we were run ragged but in the best possible way. I fell (unintentionally) more than once but got right back up and kept going. One of my falls was on a butt cheek, one was on a boob. Not as much fun as you'd think.

    Still, I'm beat. Good times.

    S A T U R D A Y night!

I will post more about Saturday night's bout later on. It was lots of fun. But here's a quicky.

My sister was witness to a drunken dude asking me some question. She said it was no mere conversation but a hit-on. And it was no mere drunken dude but a local columnist.

Oh, and he got picked up for DUI early the next morning.

    tongue on strike

Something is wrong with my tongue, it's been weird for about six days. The end of my tongue is partially numb, nothing tastes right. Spicy things are super spicy--I ate an ordinary snack size bag of nacho cheese Doritos and they were pretty intense. Not tears intense, but mild discomfort intense. I just finished some carrots and there's a prickly feeling hanging around in my mouth, like when you eat redhots or a fireball.

Also, my mouth just doesn't feel right. i normally brush my teeth when it's appropriate but also when my teeth just feel fuzzy. This doesn't mean I'm an over brusher, it's rare that my teeth feel fuzzy late in the day after a good morning brush. Still, my teeth always feel fuzzy, like, constantly. I stopped brushing, like, constantly.

any ideas? I have both my annual md physical and my semiannual dental appointment within the next month. i'm also going to cut out artificial sweeteners in a couple of days (have to finish off what I've got, bitches) to see if maybe I'm just overexposed to chemicals.

As a young fan of the Monkees this was my introduction to Frank Zappa. Time to share.
