dog update
6/12/2007
![]() ![]() So, dogs. Flash is fine, to our knowledge he has not had another seizure since, but he's also not been at my house much lately. It's nothing to do with the seizure, more to do with my sister moving home. He's here right now on my right, Denny's on the left. Denny's arthritis has been giving him problems lately. He's had a hard time getting into the car, but I do try to make him take the stairs at night. He makes it, sometimes with my help, but he always gets applause when he does get to the top of the stairs. Yesterday Denny spent time at the dog park. He usually gets pretty stiff and sore afterwards, but yesterday was particularly bad. He was running to get his rawhide (Flash was trying to take it) and fell; his growling turned to whining and so I managed to get him on his side. When I got home I decided not to make him try the stairs. Later on I thought I heard him eating and listened carefully; eating is always a good sign. It turned out it wasn't eating but him struggling to get on the couch to sleep. He was whining again (he is not a whiny dog and is usually too proud to show weakness) so I helped him on the couch. He's fine now--he's had his bufferin. He's currently sitting on my left. Labels: dogs

Flash gets ready for bed part 1

Tiny camera phone video of flashy's prebedtime ritual--hugging and suckling on the frog. No, I don't know if he was incorrectly weaned.

Quiet night after a long day
2/04/2007
Woke up intending to go shopping with the sister which didn't work out. Hey, it's all right, really. This meant a trip to the dog park where we met Flash, who seems to be finding some independence from Denny. He still likes to hang around Denny but he did a lot of running on his own. Denny ended up giving a dog the what-for. see, this young black lab mix kept wanting to hump denny, but denny didn't want none of that. Within seconds the lab mix was on his back in a move that said "ok ok you're the boss! I'm backing off!"
Even though the sister didn't want to join me in shopping I did end up checking out some of the hipper nashville shops. The biggest standout was Flaunt, a plus size clothing store I've seen advertised around town. I'm in between misses sizes and womens sizes right now which is no fun. What this means is that misses sizes are too snug and womens are too roomy. i am in a place where I can appreciate the differences in cut. The plus size clothes were cut a little roomier in the back which was pretty nice, I am very appreciative. I also did a little outdoor skating and realized I hate outdoor skating in TN. I'm used to outdoor skating in FL where everything's flat, there are too many hills here and I'm afraid to go too fast in fear of hitting a stray pebble that would leave me with a delightful road rash. Finally, I was supposed to go bowling. It had been talked about earlier in the week. I was beat and kind of didn't want to go but I decided yes, bowling. That's where it's at. It would seem, however, that everyone else decided that bowling was, in actuality, not where it was at and the bowling did not happen. What did happen is me at home watching jackass and waiting for SNL with former Vol Mr Peyton as host. Labels: dogs

Are you ready for some PUPPIES???
Because honestly, I don'treally care about the Super Bowl. I always liked when MTV had the annual Butt Bowl but those days are long gone. This year's halftime show will be FUNKY, on account of it's Prince. I prefer the puppy bowl with the kitten half time show. I am totally dog crazy, I fully admit it. I love my dog more than anyone and if there's a puppy around pretty much nothing else exists.
I mean, seriously, how can you not love puppies? This may be hard to believe but I was terrified of dogs until I was in my early teens. No kidding. I remember one summer spending most of my time indoors because the neighbors had two dogs, one a pinscher, who constantly got loose and would chase down any unlucky pedestrian in the neighborhood. I was even afraid of my cousin's pomeranian, he'd attack your ankles if you walked past a certain spot in the hallway. Oh, and in the grand tradition of me keeping my finger on the pulse I've finally discovered smoothies. My mom brought me one the other night due to my sore throat and my mind was officially blown. In the last four days I've had a total of four. And finally I've got new pads for derby practice. they're super nice, I could get shot in the knee and never know it--that's how thick the foam is! Think I'm going with the Riedell Wicked skates but still deciding. Labels: dogs, roller derby
